Upload auto chat messages to a broadcast in bulk

In addition to manually adding automatic chat messages one-by-one, you can add messages in bulk by uploading a file that contains multiple chat messages. In other words, you have the option to create and upload a full chat script that will automatically play during your live broadcast and replays.

Note: To download a sample auto chat file that also includes these instructions, click the Sample & Instructions button to the right of the Bulk Import CSV heading.

To create and format your auto chat script:

1

In Microsoft Excel or a similar program (e.g., Google Sheets), create a simple spreadsheet with four columns.

2

In the first column, enter the timestamp for when you want a chat message to appear during your broadcast. For example, in the sample auto chat script (see below), the message "Hello, I'm so excited to be here!" will appear 6 seconds after the broadcast has started.

Note: Enter your timestamp in hours, minutes, and seconds in this format: 0:00:00. For example, 0:00:06 is 6 seconds into the broadcast.  1:13:59 is 1 hour, 13 minutes, and 59 seconds into the broadcast.

3

In the second column, enter a username for the "user" who will be saying the message.

4

In the third column, enter the chat message.

5

(Optional) In the fourth column, add a link for an avatar pic for the "user" if desired.

Note: The link should be to an image file (e.g., jpg or png). Avatars will appear in a 1:1 aspect ratio. A 200x200 minimum resolution is recommended.

6

Save or export your spreadsheet as a CSV file:

  • If you are using Microsoft Excel, click the File menu at the top left of your screen and then choose Save as…  Then, from the File Format dropdown menu, choose CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited) (.csv) and save your file.

  • If you are using Google Sheets, click the File menu at the top left of your screen and then hover your mouse over the Download. Choose Comma Separated Values (.csv).

You now have a script you can upload to your PANDA broadcast.

To upload your auto chat CSV file:

1

Navigate to the Control Room for your broadcast.

2

Click the Overview tab below the video player.

3

Click the Configure Autochat button.

4

Scroll down to the Bulk Import CSV section.

5

Click the Choose File button and choose the .csv file you created with your chat script.

Note: The file you upload must be in the CSV format with the file ending .csv -- i.e., "chatscript.csv." (See step 6 above.)

6

(Optional) If you want your .csv file to replace all existing auto chats for this broadcast, including individually added auto chat messages, check the Reset and Replace Existing Auto Chat box.

7

Click the green Bulk Import button.

The chat messages from your .csv file will now be listed in the Auto Chat section of this page, alongside any auto chat messages you previously added (unless you checked the box to Reset and Replace them, as described above). All messages listed on this page will automatically appear during your live broadcast as well as during replays at the designated timestamps.

After the livestream of your broadcast, you can continue to add auto chat messages individually or in bulk using the steps above, and they will appear during replays.  You can also edit or delete your auto chat messages before or after your broadcast airs.
